The Sacred Mount of the Holy Trinity of Ghiffa

Protected Area Ghiffa

The Special Natural Reserve of the Sacred Mount of the Holy Trinity of Ghiffa

Surface area: 198 hectares,
Elevation: 360 - 785 metres,
Environment: hilly,
Year of founding as a Special Natural Park of the Piemonte Region: 1987.

The Sacred Mount of the Holy Trinity of Ghiffa is situated in a magnificent position looking out over the lake - Lago Maggiore. The slopes of Monte Cargiago, on which the 200 hectares of the natural reserve extend, provide numerous drywall-lined trails and characteristic little votive aediculae.
The architectural structures are located in a woody area of mixed broad-leaf trees, mainly copses of chestnut; there are also maple, ash, alder and birch trees. Some exotic species have been introduced, usually by reforestation after fires.
The underbrush is distinguished by yew, holly, broom and laurel; near the sanctuary, there are many linden trees.
The fauna is not particularly significant, mostly because of the presence of man; it is typical of the hilly environments of the area.
